In a recent interview, Mrs. Clinton described the Chibok girls’ kidnap as an abominable “act of terrorism,” and said the Nigeria’s government approach to protecting the country’s children as “somewhat derelict”. She condemned the “slow reaction” of the FG, noting that the situation demands “the fullest response possible”.
She calls the kidnap a “failure of local law enforcement, local community support and then the entire national government.”
Also, appearing at an International Crisis
Group award dinner in New York City, Mrs. Clinton criticized President
Goodluck Jonathan’s security forces for perpetrating “their own human rights abuses” and “failing to confront the threat or address the underlying challenges of poverty, lawlessness and despair” in Nigeria.
She expressed appreciation for the
U.S. President Barack Obama’s decision to deploy American Army troops to
assist Nigerians. She, however, observed that, despite the willingness
of the international comunity to support Nigeria, it is up to Nigeria
and her neighbors to align and launch a “coordinated effort to rescue the girls and bring their kidnappers to justice.”
