One girl did what many rejected Bachelor contestants could only dream of -- she threw a drink in Juan Pablo Galavis' face. At the Pool After Dark event at Harrah's Resort in Atlantic City, Galavis got the shocking wake up call when a girl came up to him while he was sitting on a couch and threw a drink in his face.
"F--king douche bag!" she shouted, causing security and body guards to swarm the area and eventually escort the woman out.
The former professional soccer player became one of the most controversial Bachelors, alienating many female fans by his treatment of the 27 contestants from season 18. (Especially runner up Clare Crawley.)
The Bachelor didn't let that ruin his evening, and he even spent some time with girlfriend Nikki Ferrell, who joined him in the club around 1 a.m.
"We have a long distance relationship," Galavis told Us Weekly at the event. "But we are talking about many things."

"The Lego Movie opened big and has maintained an impressive hold on the market, attracting new fans as well as repeat business from positive word of mouth. This latest milestone is a fitting testament to all the talented and dedicated people who put so much of themselves into this extraordinary film, and we congratulate them on their well-earned success," said Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman.

In Britain she is often remembered for her role in "Triangle" — a soap opera set aboard a North Sea ferry that is often cited as the worst piece of British television.
She also appeared in the original run of British series "Doctor Who" and BBC drama "Howards' Way." In the 1990s she starred in the comedy show "Absolutely Fabulous" with Joanna Lumley.
More recently she appeared in a 2012 stage adaptation of Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile."

Samsung drags Apple to court

The fiercest rivalry in the world of smartphones is heading back to court this week in the heart of the Silicon Valley, with Apple and Samsung accusing each other, once again, of ripping off designs and features.
The trial will mark the latest round in a long-running series of lawsuits between the two tech giants that underscore a much larger concern about what is allowed to be patented.
"There's a widespread suspicion that lots of the kinds of software patents at issue are written in ways that cover more ground than what Apple or any other tech firm actually invented," Notre Dame law professor Mark McKenna said. "Overly broad patents allow companies to block competition."
The latest Apple-Samsung case will be tried less than two years after a federal jury found Samsung was infringing on Apple patents. Samsung was ordered to pay about $900 million but is appealing and has been allowed to continue selling products using the technology.
Now, jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in another round of litigation, with Apple Inc. accusing Samsung of infringing on five patents on newer devices, including Galaxy smartphones and tablets. In a counterclaim, Samsung says Apple stole two of its ideas to use on iPhones and iPads.
"Apple revolutionized the market in personal computing devices," Apple attorneys wrote in court filings. "Samsung, in contrast, has systematically copied Apple's innovative technology and products, features and designs, and has deluged markets with infringing devices."
Samsung countered that it has broken technological barriers with its own ultra-slim, lightweight phones.
"Samsung has been a pioneer in the mobile device business sector since the inception of the mobile device industry," Samsung attorneys wrote. "Apple has copied many of Samsung's innovations in its Apple iPhone, iPod, and iPad products."
In the upcoming case, Apple claims Samsung stole a tap-from-search technology that allows someone searching for a telephone number or address on the web to tap on the results to call the number or put the address into a map. In addition, Apple says Samsung copied "Slide to Unlock," which allows users to swipe the face of their smartphone to use it.
Samsung countered that Apple is stealing a wireless technology system that speeds up sending and receiving data.
The most attention grabbing claim in the case is Apple's demand that Samsung pay a $40 royalty for each Samsung device running software allegedly conceived by Apple, more than five times more than the amount sought in the previous trial and well above other precedents between smartphone companies. If Apple prevails, the costs to Samsung could reach $2 billion. Apple's costs, if it lost, are expected to be about $6 million.
"You rarely get from the jury what you ask for, so companies aim high," said German patent analyst Florian Mueller. "But in my opinion this is so far above a reasonable level the judge should not have allowed it."
The problem, he said, is that each smartphone has thousands of patented ideas in it; Apple is challenging just five.
Throughout the three years of litigation, Samsung's market share has grown. One of every three smartphones sold last year was a Samsung, now the market leader. Apple, with a typically higher price, was second, with about 15 percent of the global market.

Court voids tolls on Lekki-Ikoyi bridge

Lekki-bridge-
AFTER a prolonged legal tussle, the Federal High Court yesterday said it was illegal for Lagos State Government or its agents or privies to collect tolls on the recently-constructed Lekki-Ikoyi bridge.
The judgment delivered yesterday by Justice Saliu Saidu in Lagos followed a suit filed by lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun Adegboruwa, against the collection of tolls on the bridge.
However, in a swift reaction, the state government said it would appeal against the judgment because of what it termed its ambiguous nature.
Saidu held that there was no law in Lagos State authorising the collection of toll on the bridge by the government.
According to the court, the power to control the Lekki Lagoon and other Federal Navigable Waterways lies with the national government in Abuja.
He said although the Federal Government has given some authority to the state to construct the bridge, there was no law authorising or permitting the collection of toll on it.
The judge noted that the bridge was not a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative for which the collection of toll can be allowed.
Justice Saliu said: “The question is: Has the third respondent, Lagos State Government, made appropriate law to enable it collect toll on the bridge?
“The third respondent only cited Section 27, 28 and 29 of the Lagos State Public Private Partnership Law 2011 as making provision for collection of toll.
“There’s nothing before me to show that the subject matter in this case was as a result of the Public Private Partnership Law.
“The fact before this court is that the bridge was built with the third respondent’s money. I agree and uphold the construction of this bridge as of right.
“The third respondent has power to generate revenue from the subject matter, but the existing law does not cover it.
“The third respondent can only enact a law to that effect before it can collect toll on the bridge.”
But Ipaye said the state would immediately file an application for stay of execution of the judgment as a precautionary measure in order to prevent people from acting contrary in complete misunderstanding of the court’s verdict.
The commissioner, who briefed us in Lagos after the judgment, said the clarification became necessary because of the importance of the project to the state as the court never made any declarative or consequential orders, only that the court said there is no law permitting the state to collect toll on the bridge.
He contended that the judgment contained at least two or three fundamental errors, firstly that the court, without addressing the submission of parties, held that the payment made by Julius Berger on behalf of the Lagos State Government to the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) in respect of the bridge construction, amounted to a concession the agency was the only authority to regulate river channels in the country.
Ipaye explained that the payment of N10 million was made by the contractor when NIWA was stalling the multi-billion naira construction and that Lagosthen filed the proof of payment without prejudice to the comprehensive arguments on the right of the state to control its inland waterways.
Another fundamental error in the judgment, the commissioner said, was the assumption of the court that the Private Partnerships Law of Lagos State which was cited in support of toll collection did not apply simply because the bridge construction was not by public-private partnership.
Ipaye further stated that contrary to the court’s assumption, Section 29 Law clearly states that it applies to public infrastructure or public assets. “Tolls chargeable under the Law can clearly be on any public infrastructure or asset, not necessarily on those built with private sector partnership. The maintenance and tolling of the bridge is in fact by a private sector company to which a concession was granted by Lagos State Government.”
“It is noteworthy that the claimant never sought from the court any declaration to the effect that there was no law to cover the collection of tolls on the bridge and the pronouncement made in this regard was not one of the nine declarations sought by the applicant,” he noted.
In the public interest suit, Adegboruwa had sought an injunction restraining the Lagos State Government from collecting toll from motorists on the bridge.
Named as first and second respondents in the suit are the Attorney-General of the Federation and NIWA, while the Attorney-General of Lagos State and the Alausa, Ikeja Government are the third and fourth respondents.
In challenging the collection of toll on the new Lekki-Ikoyi suspension bridge, Adegboruwa urged the court to apply the provisions of Section 4 of the 1999 Constitution to determine the supremacy of laws between the National Assembly and the House of Assembly.
But during the pendency of the suit, Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on May 29, 2013 commissioned it and announced a toll regime of N350 for Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) and N250 for cars.
Adegboruwa had also submitted that once the National Assembly had made an Act in respect of any subject, such as the Lekki Lagoon on which the bridge is erected, a State House of Assembly is incompetent to make contrary laws.
He, therefore, urged the court to hold that even if the Federal Government through NIWA had authorised Lagos State to construct the bridge, such authority did not extend to collection of toll which is a form of taxation.
He prayed the court to declare the collection of toll on the bridge illegal and unconstitutional.
But Ipaye had argued that so far as there was a concession from the Federal Government for the construction of the bridge, the case of the applicant was nothing but an academic exercise.
He stated that though Section 4 of the Constitution grants the National Assembly powers to make laws, the efficacy of such legislation would depend on the areas reserved for it.
According to him, there are laws in Lagos State, such as the one on public partnership, which authorize (s) the collection of tolls on roads and therefore urged the court to dismiss the applicant’s case.

Here comes Google's robo cars and end of driving!

Why waste your drive time doing the actual driving, when technology can be your chauffeur? The century-old auto culture is on the verge of radical change, and you can thank Google for where it's headed.
This is what the road looks like for a Google self-driving car: a laser scanner helps the vehicle chart a course through intersections and traffic. This is what the road looks like for a Google self-driving car: a laser scanner helps the vehicle chart a course through intersections and traffic. Google Google's self-driving car initiative is moving into a new phase: reality
Three years after first showing the world what it was up to -- rolling out a Toyota Prius with laser-scanning hardware awkwardly perched on the roof -- Google is moving its big idea out of the lab and into the real world.
Consider recent developments: A spokesman confirmed to CNET that the company was in what were described as productive talks with automakers involving Google's self-driving technology. Separately, Google is reported to be crafting a partnership with auto supplier Continental. And there's even the possibility of Google-powered robo-taxis sometime in the future.

Zimbabwean in Miss Africa U.S. Finale

Zimbabwean model Yolanda Grace Yona, who is set to represent the country in the Top Model Worldwide contest in London on April 13, is appealing for votes for her to win the title. The 25-year-old Ukraine-based model, also known as Nana Simz, made it to the finals after she entered the competition last year. She will, however, require the backing of the pubic especially back home since there will be an online public vote for country representatives.
"I am excited about the grand opportunity and I pray all goes well. I need all the publicity I can get right now otherwise if I am not known I will not get sufficient votes to win the title," she said.
Miss Nana Simz is no stranger to show business as she has graced Pink Magazine, a prestigious Russian magazine. She also landed a role in a high budget action movie "22 Minutes" due for release in Moscow this year.
"In the movie, I am the love interest of the main character. It is based on a true story about a Russian marine ship that was hijacked by pirates and how the main character managed to survive until his rescue," she said.
The Mutare-born and bred model said that she has been modelling for some time now although her family does not fully approve.
She took part in Miss Zimbabwe 2007 although she was unable to take home the crown. When she relocated to South Africa she made a few appearances on the ramp, but since she had a job elsewhere, she could not go to many castings.
"I featured in Soul Magazine in South Africa and when I did a bit of modelling, but right now I am studying to be an air traffic controller in Ukraine.
"I work time to time with Russian photographer Sasha Samsanova who did my spread for Pink Magazine," she said
Nana Simz is hoping to not only lift the Zimbabwe flag high, but to prove to her family that something good can come out of modelling.
"I want to be a role model and at the same time show my family that there is more to modelling than drugs and scandals. Competitions like Top Model World Wide will open doors for me," she said.

Japan's Chiaki Kuriyama Wins Rising Star of Asia Award in Hong Kong

Chiaki Kuriyama talks about her career and award in Hong Kong

The actress talks to THR about her breakthrough role as Gogo Yubari in "Kill Bill," being a Japanese screen veteran at age 29, and her ambitions for a return to Hollywood.

HONG KONG – Chiaki Kuriyama (Kill Bill, Battle Royale), winner of the new Rising Star of Asia Award at the Hong Kong International Film Festival this week, has ambitions to work overseas again, but says language remains the biggest hurdle.
Kuriyama, who has appeared in more than 20 films and nearly as many TV dramas in Japan, is best known globally as the lethal schoolgirl bodyguard Gogo Yubari in Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003). She was given the Rising Star of Asia Award this week, alongside Korea's Kim Nam Gil, by the newly-formed Asian Film Awards Academy, established by the Busan, Hong Kong and Tokyo film festivals.
"There are a lot of co-productions between Japan and other countries recently, so I would like to give it a go, but there is always the language barrier," Kuriyama told THR in Hong Kong, where she received the award on the eve of the Filmart contents market.
As well as working in Asia, Kuriyama still has ambitions to appear in a Hollywood film again.
"Of course I would like to," said Kuriyama. "In Kill Bill my lines were in Japanese not English. I guess I could get a role of a Japanese person who spoke English badly (laughs)."
"When I come abroad, I think it would be good if I could speak to people directly and that I'll study when I go back to Japan. But then I have lots to do and I always put it off," she added.
Asked about getting a Rising Star award after having been in the business for nearly two decades, Kuriyama insisted she still had a long way to go.
"I am just still in my twenties, and it makes me feel like I want to keep improving myself and carry on with my career. When I was young, I thought my goal was to improve my skills and get better. But now my aim is to be able to carry my career longer. And as I get older, I can do different roles," said Kuriyama.
"It was more than ten years ago when I did Kill Bill, but people still talk to me about it, including people from overseas," she added. "It makes me realize that films are enduring

Wong Kar Wai Dedicates Asia Film Award to Stuntman Lost on Missing Malaysian Flight

Wong Kar Wei - P 2012
Wong Kar Wai

Nearing tears, the Hong Kong auteur used his acceptance speech for best director at the film event in Macau to call for resolution for families of the missing victims of MH370.

Wong Kar Wai brought the 8th Asia Film Awards to an emotional conclusion in Macau Thursday night, dedicating his best director award for The Grandmaster to the film's stuntman Ju Kun, who was among passengers lost aboard Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
"One of our martial arts directors unfortunately is one of the victims of MH370, so here I hope the Malaysian government can try their best to address this issue by taking a more transparent attitude," said Wong, adding "let us know the truth."
Kun, who worked as a stunt double for Jet Li on Universal's co-production The Forbidden Kingdom, was scheduled to work on the Weinstein Co. and Netflix TV period drama Marco Polo at a studio in Malaysia before he boarded the flight to return to Beijing to visit his kids.
On March 8, Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 disappeared from civilian radar screens a little less than an hour after taking off from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing with 239 people on board. No confirmed sighting of the plane or its remains has been made since. The Malaysian government has since said it believes it crashed somewhere in the Indian Ocean and that all passengers should be presumed dead.
Zhang wrote on Sina Weibo that she’s hoping for a miracle. She said the missing flight was the talk of the set on her latest movie, John Woo’s The Crossing, which is concluding filming in Beijing.
Zhang described Ju as “sincere, kind and hardworking.”
Wong's The Grandmaster dominated the newly revamped Asia Film Awards Thursday night, taking seven awards, including best director, best actress, best film, best score, best composer, best costume design and best production design.

Angelina Jolie Confirmed to Direct 'Unbroken' in Australia

Universal's Louis Zamperini biopic will shoot in locations in Queensland and New South Wales starting in late October for a Christmas 2014 release.

SYDNEY -- Angelina Jolie will direct Unbroken in the Australian states of New South Wales and Queensland, it was confirmed Tuesday, with the shoot based at Sydney’s Fox Studios Australia and Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast and set to start filming Oct. 21.
Jolie visited both states in early September, finalizing locations for the World War II-set biopic of U.S. Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini. It will shoot in Sydney, regional locations in NSW and at Village Roadshow Studios and its water tank on the Gold Coast. It's also expected that some of the visual effects work will be done by NSW companies.
NSW deputy premier Andrew Stoner and Queensland arts minister Ian Walker confirmed the details, including that the film qualifies for Screen Queensland's Production Incentive program, among others.
Unbroken is the sophomore feature for Jolie as a director after 2010’s In The Land of Blood and Honey. It follows the life story of Zamperini, who, along with two other crewmen, survived on a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash during WWII, only to be captured by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.
Confirmed in the cast are Jack O'Connell as Zamperini, Garrett Hedlund, Domhnall Gleeson, Finn Wittrock and Alex Russell. Jolie is producing with Matthew Baer and Erwin Stoff.
“Securing production of Unbroken in NSW will inject millions of dollars into the State’s economy and is expected to create more than 300 jobs for NSW-based crew alone and more for cast and extras,” Stoner said.
Stoner said that Screen NSW had worked hard to bring the production to the state against strong competition from other possible locations around the world.
"'Securing this production for NSW demonstrates the competitiveness of doing business here,” he said. “It puts a global spotlight on NSW and on the strength of our digital economy -- from smart networks and intelligent technologies to digital animation, visual effects, live action filming and interactive content. This will be a great boost for our digital economy and creative industries, as well as our international reputation."
"We are thrilled to be welcoming Angelina Jolie's film Unbroken to Queensland,'' added Screen Queensland COO Jennie Hughes. "It will create a substantial amount of jobs for the film and television industry in Queensland, putting the business back in show business.''
Universal Pictures has scheduled the film for release in the U.S. on Christmas Day 2014

Hennessy Performance launches special ‘World's Fastest' edition of its Venom GT supercar

Venom GT World's Fastest Edition
To celebrate hitting 270.49mph (435.31 km/h) and unofficially breaking the Guinness World record for fastest production car, the Texan carmaker is building three very special cars, each with a $1.25 million price tag.
In February, a Venom GT took to the runway at the Kennedy Space Center and, with just a 3.2-mile track to play with, managed to break the 270mph barrier, beating the current world record, held by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Its top speed of 269.86 mph (434.30kph) was set on a purpose-built track that includes a 5-mile straight.
To commemorate the achievement, Hennessey Performance is building three special editions of the Venom GT with a special paint finish designed to evoke the American flag.
"The Venom GT is America's supercar and it broke 270 mph on the same runway where the Space Shuttle landed at the Kennedy Space Center," said company founder John Hennessey. "We wanted to offer a special paint scheme that would incorporate the colors of the American flag -- the same flag we flew on the Space Shuttle runway. Thus, our special livery package includes a body in white with red and blue stripes."
However, although Guinness recognizes the Venom GT as the world's fastest accelerating road car -- it can go from 0-300km/h in 13.63 seconds -- despite video evidence, its claims to being the world's fastest production car are unofficial.
For a road-going car to be officially acknowledged as the world's fastest, it must make a record-breaking run twice -- so the average speed can be taken -- and it must be deemed to be a true production car. So, road legal, unmodified form a stock version and, crucially, be built in a production run of 30 examples or more.
The Venom was only afforded a single run on the track, and because production is strictly limited to 29 examples, it doesn't technically qualify as a production car.
But that doesn't mean that the car isn't ferociously fast. It's super-light, thanks to an aluminum and carbon fiber body and is propelled forward by a 7-liter V8 engine with twin turbochargers. The result is a car that weighs 1244kg and delivers 1244bhp, the magic ratio of 1bhp per kilogram.
Currently, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport still officially holds the title of world's fastest production car. It can hit 269.86 mph (434.30km/h) but did so on Volkswagen's immense testing track which includes a 5-mile straight. Whether or not the company can hold on to the record remains to be seen.
Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg has just officially unveiled its latest creation, the Agera One:1. Like the Venom, it has the magic ratio of 1PS (metric horsepower) per kg (1340 of each I total) and, the company claims it is good for "at least" 273mph. All the company needs now is a long enough runway to prove it.
